Our Insiders' Article

Picasso Mania

After “Picasso and the Masters,” in 2008, Picasso is honored once more this year at the Grand Palais. Picasso Mania is more than about just presenting the artist’s works, but about showcasing the considerable influence of the artist in the world of art. You will discover various pieces that were produced in Picasso’s honor, but also some of his very own creations, available in kind of an “organized mess”, all in the image of the prolific artist.

Eclectic Exhibition

The insight from other artists on Picasso only serves to reinforce our comprehension of his art. You will be led to rediscover cubism like a movement that favors the representation of the mental rather than perceptible space. The political dimension of Guernica and the influence of Desmoiselles d’Avignon on African art take all of their meaning when artists with diverse backgrounds revisit the paintings. The series of portraits associated with pieces from Warhol show the connection between Picasso and pop art.

Screens

Who has never seen a photo of Picasso dressed in a striped sweater? The artist owned a large mastery of the image that he wished to project to the world. The numerous screens that are present in the exhibition highlight this aspect of Picasso and recall the influence that he had in cinema, but also in music. The Grand Palais aims to demonstrate this in their “exhibition 2.0,” combining seeing and hearing, art and technology and allowing you to discover this multi-faceted artiste a bit more. It would be a shame to pass this up!
