Why you will love it?

Not only is this the first exhibition dedicated to French couturier icon Jean Paul Gaultier but it is also the most animated fashion exhibit we have seen yet. Originally created in Montréal in 2011, the exhibit has since travelled around the world but the Paris version will be the biggest yet with over 175 pieces of haute couture and ready-to-wear dating from 1976-2015. With talking mannequins and elaborate collections from Punk Cancan to Urban Jungle, this is a not-to-miss exhibition. Enjoy! Parisianist

Our Insiders' Article

Not to Miss

Exploring the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit is like wandering down the rabbit hole into 6 major rooms – each with their own distinct themes. The most notable rooms are the 2nd and 3rd. Stepping into the second room is like stepping into a lively couture party filled with imaginatively dressed mannequins, chatting away with their projection-animated faces. The 3rd room is a fashion show “best of” with a catwalk and rotating mannequins wearing some of his most lavish creations. Other not to miss highlights: Madonna’s iconic conical corset and the Urban Jungle wedding dress with full aboriginal-style headpiece

Set apart

Aside from the pieces themselves, the undoubtable highlight of the exhibition is 3-dozen mannequins with animated faces and voices. Video and sound projections are used to recreate these moving faces and animated voices on the mannequins who even include Jean Paul Gaultier himself. They are a poetic and amusing presence throughout the exhibition whether they are conducting a confused conversation or giving you a singing entrance into the next room.

40 Years

40 years after his first fashion show in the Palais de la Découverte, Jean Paul Gaultier is back inside the Grand Palais, this time with his own exhibit. In the press interview, Jean Paul Gaultier reminds us that during a fashion show we see each garment for about 2-3 seconds as it passes but during an exhibition you really have the chance to see the craftsmanship that has gone into his pieces. Gaultier sees the exhibition as a creation in its own right, a new collection and not a retrospective
