Why you will love it?

Montmartre has welcomed many iconic people in the past, such as Picasso, Berlioz or Toulouse Lautrec, but today, one man represents the lively spirit of this iconic Parisian neighborhood: Michou. Every night since July 13th 1956, Michou’s small and friendly cabaret “Chez Michou” features international singing superstars such as Celine Dion, Edith Piaf, Whitney Huston and Dalida… well, not the real ones of course, but impersonations with a twist.

Our Insiders' Article

If there is one person today that can be considered as iconic in the Parisian nightlife, it would be Michou. He opened his own cabaret “Chez Michou” on July 13th, 1956, cross-dressing and singing classic French hits to entertain the handful of people. Soon after, Chez Michou attracted many curious people wanting to see what it was all about. Slowly but surely, Michou, the gentleman in blue, became a legend and his cabaret an iconic landmark in Montmartre.

Michou says it himself: "In my cabaret, the surprise lies under the skirts of the female performers." Spoiler alert: they're all transvestites! In this small cabaret (80 people max), everyone's there to have a great time. Nothing is really taken very seriously, which gives it a human and friendly aspect. For 1.5 hours, celebrities hit the tiny stage: Celine Dion, Edith Piaf, Whitney Huston, Grace Jones, Charles Aznavour and many other French stars impersonated by talented lip-synching lady-boys (the resemblance is sometimes disturbing!).

Parisianist Warning: all the comments in between the songs are in French. Don't worry, you will still have a good time.

Food & Drinks

Chez Michou opens at 8PM (ring the bell at the entrance and wait for someone to open the door) and you will be shown to your table by the waiters. Two dinner options are offered before the show: a €110 menu, with ½ bottle of wine per person, or a €140 menu, with champagne instead of wine. The 3 course meal is good traditional French cuisine, but do not expect gourmet dining!  Before the meal, Michou usually introduces his “Michettes” (the waiters / performers).

Although Michou’s color is blue (blue tie, jacket and signature glasses), the color of the cabaret is red. Dimmed red lights illuminate the room reflecting in the many mirrors of the cabaret, while candlelight adds a warm and cozy feel when sitting at the table. Long tables are set to welcome 80 people on sold out nights and you will sit next to people you won’t know, unless you want to sit at the bar during the performance. This creates a lively and intimate ambiance, where people will feel free to sing and clap their hands to the famous tunes.

If you are expecting to see some French Cancan, Michou is not the place. However, what Michou offers in his cabaret is one of a kind and found nowhere else in the French capital: a friendly and intimate dinner followed by a show featuring transvestites impersonating stars while dancing and lip-synching to popular French and international tunes. For sure, it is a night of fun you will remember all your life.
