Why you will love it?

Peres et Filles is located in the heart of Saint Germain, and its popularity comes as no surprise. Set in a lively atmosphere, the decoration is a modern twist on traditional French. On the menu are old-school French dishes in generous servings, especially for such moderate prices. Book ahead, especially for the patio.

Our Insiders' Article

The story of Pères et Filles (Fathers and Daughters) starts back in 2004, when 3 associates decide to open a traditional bistro in one of the nicest and liveliest areas in Paris: Saint Germain. The name Fathers and Daughters is a true story, as all 3 associates were the proud fathers of 3 daughters when they opened the restaurant.

Parisianist Fun Fact: Since 2004, the fathers have also had sons, and therefore on the façade, they have added “&Fils” (and sons)…

Pères et Filles is all about tradition. On the menu, you will find the traditional French dishes à la grandmother’s recipe. Some classic dishes are revisited though, suiting today’s modern taste buds. Best sellers include the Pot-au-Feu (beef stew) in winter, and the Tartare (seasoned raw meat) in summer. David, the manager, has selected a fine butcher and fish merchant to guarantee fresh and delicious products. Unlike the typical Brasserie, the bistro has a choice of 10 main dishes, so you don’t need to worry about getting defrosted dishes! A full meal will cost around 40€ per person.

Just like any typical French restaurant, Pères et Filles focuses on quality wines. On the menu, you will only find French wines, ranging from 22€ to 80€ a bottle. Each month, David selects the “wine of the month”, a great value for money deal. Of course, beers and soft drinks are also available.

Pères et Filles is impossible to label in terms of ambiance as people from very different horizons come to taste the delicious classic French dishes here. The best word to try to describe it is “Mix”, for it is indeed a mix of cultures, ages and origins. Even the musical ambiance is ever changing, ranging from jazz to more modern electro music. Parisians in their 30’s and foreigners in their 40’s tend to best describe the clientele at Pères et Filles.

Parisianist Fun Fact: 3 generations of the same family happened to reserve separately 3 tables on the same night, a pure coincidence. That is what happens when the food and ambiance is great: people come back!

One of the associates is a bargain hunter, and has collected many different object throughout the years. Some of these objects have served as decoration in the restaurant, creating a cozy and warm feeling. A trip to New York inspired the associates to put tiles on the walls, and in order to adapt to the very artsy neighborhood (authors, art galleries, book sellers…), they have installed several bookshelves full of old French books, including comic books for children. The façade and the bar were designed by interior designer Laura Gonzales in an Art Deco style.

The menu is currently available in English, but David doesn’t really want to keep this, as he feels that this alters the interaction and communication between the restaurant and the international customers. The young international students working for Pères et Filles will happily answer all the questions and make any suggestions concerning the recommended dishes. So if you are in the neighborhood and if you are looking for a good address for classic French food (and a great terrace), you will find it at Pères et Filles.
