Our Insiders' Article

A brush with chance

In 2011, Nicolas Paradis was in search of a location for his wine tasting courses destined for English-speakers. The hunt was long and tiresome until he stumbled across an old butcher's shop that had been closed for two years and was located in the antique dining rooms of a 17th-century hotel.
A realtor was in the middle of assessing the place, and a buyer was ready to sign for it only a few days later. At the time Nicolas Paradis also toured the building and succeeded in convincing the real estate agent (a former rugby opponent) to give him the owner's phone number.
Passionate about wine, the realtor and owner alike were seduced by Paradis' know-how and after eight months of work, O Château opened its doors.

Food: Carte Blanche for the chefs

The restaurant is conceived as a window into the tastings that are hosted there. As a result the two chefs have carte blanche when it comes to the choice of ingredients and the creation of the menu.
The menu changes every week and always has several options. Two rounds of service are available for the diner but if the hours aren't convenient for you, it is possible to order a cured meats or grilled vegetables to nibble on at any hour of the day.

Drinks: A distinguished cellar

The only Parisian wine bar awarded the prestigious Wine Spectator, the wine at Ô Château is no laughing matter. The cellar holds more than 750 varieties and each week based on the sommeliers’ fancy, 40 wines are served by the glass, some of which are very distinguished vintages.
Those who come for dinner will have the choice between two fixed wine menus to accompany the meal: a first one for €69 will guarantee a personalized pairing by the sommelier.
The second fixed menu is more extravagant (€95 extra) as it includes quality vintage wines. For those who come at times other than the service hours, several fixed menus are proposed that include some exciting wines. Keep in mind that wine by the glass is served in the standard glass size or in smaller tasting proportions.

Ambiance/Decor : Chill and International

All that's left from the days of the butcher shop are the wooden beams, reminiscent of the place's prestigious past. Otherwise, Ô Château was entirely redesigned.
With its fancy machine that perfectly preserves open bottles of wine and its antique wooden floors and beams, O Château is a harmonious blend of modern and vintage. The big curved bar encourages sociability and gives you a chance to meet new people.
The clientele is mostly foreign but thanks to the wine-lovers and regulars who frequent the place, the foreign ambiance doesn't get too old.

Ô Château is the kind of place you could go alone, on the condition that you absolutely love wine and the stories that wine tells. Every glass set in front of you will be accompanied by anecdotes and history, taking you on a pleasant trip to a world where Dionysus is god. Certain rooms can be reserved for private events, a great opportunity for the wine connoisseurs.
