Our Insiders' Article

Intro

Living with the famous antique and flea market of Saint-Ouen, “Ma Cocotte is not describable, it has to be lived”. Philippe Starck, the most famous French interior designer reveals a friendly restaurant where the innocence of childhood go hand in hand with antique flea market objects. Fabienne and Philippe Amzalak have a great deal of experience in managing restaurants, as they managed le Fouquet’s, Häagen Dazs franchises and La Maison du Danemark on the Champs-Elysées. They have recently decided to present their unique savoir faire via Ma Cocotte.

Food & Drinks

Always in the purest French tradition, Ma Cocotte serves the classic French dishes, adding a touch of its own. Best sellers include lamb chops with a creamy polenta (€24.50) or a thick beef rib for 2 to 3 people (€92.00 for 3 people). Without wine, a 3 course menu costs 50€, but you will want to add at least a glass of one of the wines that the manager has selected, either coming from France or far away places such as Argentina or New Zealand.

Ambiance

Ma Cocotte cuddles you. Ma Cocotte adores you. Ma Cocotte takes care of you… With 400 stands of antiques and second hand items surrounding the restaurant, we could easily say that Ma Cocotte is a stand of typical French way of life. Parisians and visitors all come to the restaurant in order to take a break from all the shopping.

Decor

The 2 floor restaurant is divided into an interior and exterior part, with large windows separating in and out. Inside, the decoration is mostly made of items that could very well have their place in the antique stands surrounding the restaurant. A mirror ball by the artist Régis-R, bricks, concrete and the diverse light sources make it a surprising décor at first, but makes perfect sense after settling in the restaurant.

Conclusion

Interesting new encounters, captivating discussions with perfect strangers, this is what describes the environment of Ma Cocotte.  Philippe Stark has been able to mix the antique décor with the very modern setting. The perfect place to be for lunch on a weekend shopping afternoon.
