We have decided to put Lockwood in our cocktail bar selection because of the quality and diversity of their mixes, but the truth is, Lockwood is much more than a cocktail bar. Open from 8AM to 2AM, Lockwood does not only serve alcoholic drinks! Be it breakfast, coffee, lunch, take away, “aperitivo”, dinner or cocktails, you will find it all in this cozy bar / restaurant located in the heart of the vibrant Sentier district. 


To better understand the concept behind Lockwood, it is important to understand who is behind it. Olivier and Christophe are the owners, but more importantly, they are brothers. With Olivier having over 15 years in the bar business abroad and Christophe having successfully opened several bars in Australia (Pocket bar, Stitch bar and Button bar), it was time to combine forces and create a sensation in Paris. With the help of 3rd brother Thomas, a professional in the coffee bar business, Lockwood opened in December 2013 as a perfect combination of both coffee bar / restaurant and cocktail bar.


There are two floors at Lockwood. The bar / restaurant on the ground floor opens at 8AM all the way to the closing time. The coffee shop atmosphere and warm decor gradually morphs into a trendier cocktail bar as the sun sets (alcohol bottles are hung on bungee cords). The trendy bar on the basement level only opens at night and is where the real creative cocktails are served.


Food is a very important part of Lockwood. Serving breakfast and lunch during the day until 6pm, the restaurant then takes an Italian twist between 6:30 and 7:30pm, offering an “aperitivo” style buffet of dried meats and other delicious finger food with every drink ordered. At night, great tasting street food such as hamburgers, quesadillas, veggie burgers or dried meats platters can be ordered on both ground and basement floors. These dishes are also changed on a regular basis and come at a price of around 14€. Prices of the cocktails stretch from 10 to 12€ on the ground floor, and tend to be a little pricier downstairs (12 to 16€).


Olivier and Christophe didn’t really have a clear cut idea of what the decor would be like when they first started renovating the place, so they based it on feeling. With their experience, they knew what their clientele would like and combined it with their own tastes.  Small log-like tables are at the entrance whereas higher tables and stools are located in the back. The old objects on display under the counter (old camera, vintage dolls, business cards…) give the café a warm and cozy feeling. The cellar-like ground floor gives a real cachet to the nightly cocktail bar.


After those 15 years of experience working in bars, clubs and restaurants, there was one thing that Olivier and Christophe did not want to have: a DJ. But that doesn’t mean that the ambiance and music is lame. On the contrary! Lockwood has a wide selection of rock and roll or blues from the 50’s to the 70’s, which is turned up on busy weekend nights, attracting a crowd of both foreigners and French, all between 25 and 45 years old. A mix of nationalities, ages and styles best defines Lockwood’s clientele.


So where does the name Lockwood come from? Feeling as well, says Olivier. There is no symbolism or reference behind the name, apart from the fact that both brothers are fans of the movie Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. So whether you are staying in the neighborhood or not, come enjoy a coffee or a meal here, but whatever you do, don’t miss the mouthwatering cocktails in the basement at night!
