Who is it for?

Paris for you
Paris for you
Paris for you

Why you will love it?

The full-on view of the Eiffel Tower would be enough to justify coming to this glass-and-iron restaurant on the top floor of the Musée du Quai Branly, but new chef Frédéric Claudel's food also commands envy. There is also a reasonable fixed price menu for lunch.

Our Insiders' Article

French and World Cuisine Combined

There is no other restaurant in Paris where you will have the same full-on view of the Eiffel Tower like Les Ombres (“the Shadows”), a trendy and elegant restaurant located on top of the Musée du Quai Branly.
With a room that can welcome 100 guests and a terrace welcoming 100 more on sunny days, Les Ombres is an oasis of tranquility and refinement.
And although the shadow of the Eiffel Tower marks the table cloths out in squares, many of the other iconic monuments of Paris can be seen from this rooftop restaurant designed by world class architect Jean Nouvel.

Classic Parisian with a twist of elsewhere

With an authentic and refined cuisine revisited with a touch of exotism, Les Ombres adapts to all tastes and expectations. Chef Frédéric Claudel and his team offer dishes with a classic spirit, yet adding a twist of spices and originality that you won’t find in any other traditional Parisian brasserie (typical restaurant).
Typical recipes such as the chicken supreme with a macaroni gratin will be served or cooked in an original way. When it comes to cheese, there is surprisingly only one choice, Camembert, but Mme Cantin’s camembert is certainly not the one found in any regular grocery store!
Classics are also found in the desert menu, such as the "Paris-Brest" or the best selling raspberry cheesecake, also coming with an original and improved taste.

For lunch, dinner or snacks, the doors are always open

The price of the lunch menu is 32€ if you want a 2 course meal, but a 3 course menu will cost 42€, which is a very decent price for the quality of the food and the area.
At night, 2 menus are proposed: a 68€ version for a 3 course meal, excluding drinks, or a 95€ version also including a glass of champagne, wine, water and coffee.
Light snacks such as foie gras or salmon with bread can be ordered just before dinner, while enjoying the view of the terrace.
Between 2:30pm and 5:30pm, hot beverages, fresh fruit juices and pastries can be enjoyed on the terrace. The menu changes with the seasons to guarantee the freshness of all the ingredients.

Drinks: Parisian chic wines and Champagne

When it comes to drinks, Les Ombres has decided to propose a selection of wines that fit the spirit of the restaurant: Parisian chic.
You will find a choice of Brouilly, Morgon or Chirouble, which are generally wines reflecting a cozy and friendly atmosphere. These will most certainly perfectly accompany your meal. Les Ombres also offers a selection of Champagne and soft drinks.

Ambiance: the warmth and fun of a traditional brasserie

Since the spirit of the restaurant is Contemporary Parisian Chic, the ambiance of the restaurant is closely related. But who said chic was not friendly and warm?
Les Ombres is still a typical Parisian brasserie - the uniforms of the waiters are there to prove it - and the fun of those establishments is omnipresent. Be it businessmen during lunch, a meal among friends, or a romantic culinary experience at night, Les Ombres offers a true Parisian ambiance, especially on the terrace.

Decor: a combination of the origin of the world and home

Les Ombres opened in 2006 and being on the top of the Musée du Quai Branly, the primitive arts museum in Paris, it had to play with both the real Parisian chic and influences from the far corners of the world.
The new set up (the restaurant was renovated in 2012) is based on the letters “OM” of the word OMbres. OM is the Sanskrit syllable from where everything originates, found in many Asian religions. Yet it also resembles the word “home”. It’s therefore the perfect combination between Paris and the world.

History: on the roof of a museum dedicated to primitive arts

Primitive arts were never represented by museums in Paris. So in 1990, Jacques Kerchache convinced the Louvre to open a special area dedicated to primitive arts (Pavillon des Sessions, still visible today), but it was with the help of former French President Jacques Chirac that a museum dedicated to primitive arts was built, Musée du Quai Branly, in 2006.
The rooftop restaurant was opened at the same time, but the restaurant is not accessible via the museum.

Conclusion: Quality food and a responsible activity

Les Ombres is managed by one of the leading catering companies in Europe, Elior. Its engagement is to welcome and take care of each and every customer with passion and professionalism.
Elior is also a member of the United Nations Global Compact since 2004, therefore taking care of its clients by focusing on quality and nutrition and by monitoring the impact of their activity on the environment.
Les Ombres is a bit pricy in the evening, but having lunch there on a sunny day is a great experience, the view on the Eiffel Tower being incomparable. Reservation is recommended.
