Intro

Les Crocs de l’Ogre restaurant started blooming in the minds of Nicolas Bérenger, Maxime and Henry Bauche as they were working in the wine business. What they wanted to offer was a place to hang out in with friends and “have fun, drink good wine and devour real big juicy pieces of meat”. The result speaks for itself: a choice of great meats cooked just the way you like it, along with a wide range of wines perfectly matching your meal.

Food

Of course, the food at Les Crocs de l’Ogre is all about meat. It is carefully selected by the owners and meat connoisseurs, which can then talk about it with passion and recommend something according to your tastes and expectations. And should you be disappointed, a drink is offered to forgive and forget. But quality and quantity doesn’t come cheap. The average bill is around €50 to €60. The meat is served with small potatoes cooked in duck fat and a choice of delicious sauces such as pepper or foie gras sauce.

Drinks

The specialty of Les Crocs de l’Ogre isn’t just meat. It’s also wine. There are between 170 and 180 wines that have been carefully selected by the owners, who also have privileged contacts with local producers. The smoking room (fumoir) is the perfect place to have a digestive (€7 to €36), with a choice of 8 Armagnacs, 5 old rhums (7to20 years old) and cognacs (50 to 100 years old).

Ambiance

Bohemian, hipster, regular neighborhood customers or big traditional French families, all come here to enjoy meat and wine. This interesting mix of clientele creates the typical ambiance of an old Parisian bistros. The waiters explain all the dishes on the menu verbally (in English or Spanish), which enhances the social and friendly atmosphere. According to the owners, the smoking room is what best translates the cozy ambiance of the restaurant.

Parisianist Fun Fact: The owners have heard a lot of nonsense from people at the bar: “do you have alcohol free wine? We felt like eating sushi, but since you are nice, we are staying…”

Decor

A real butcher’s display with all sorts of tasty looking meat in the middle of the restaurant, a cozy smoking room with soft and comfortable couches, wooden tables, a tiled floor, industrial lamps and the menu written on a blackboard… It’s retro, but this decor suits the concept of the restaurant nicely. A touch of modern has been added to the retro decor though: black and white artistic pictures of personalities hang proudly on the walls (Tarantino, Keanu Reeves & Laurence Fishburne…)

Conclusion

This lively restaurant is recommended for an evening among friends. The rustic and welcoming place is something you don’t often see in Paris and gives a real charm to Les Crocs de l’Ogre. Meat, friends, wine and cigars, the description of Les Crocs de l’Ogre is, coming to think of it, very simple as it all fits in those 4 words…
