Our Insiders' Article

Introduction

« Le Restaurant » is the restaurant of the hotel called L’Hôtel, which was where famous author Oscar Wilde passed away in 1900. But that’s not the only historical detail about this area. Even way before the first stone of l’Hôtel was placed in 1824, it was already an iconic place, welcoming one of the most influential Queens of France: Queen Margot. It is only in 1963 that the building became a hotel and went by the simple name of L’Hôtel.

Food & Drinks

In March 2012, Chef Julien Montbabut gets his first Michelin star, a grand distinction in the profession. Since May 2011, he has played with French traditional cuisine by adding his own personal touch at Le Restaurant. A 2 course meal is proposed for lunch (€45 to €55), and in the evening, one of the recommended dishes is the blue lobster flambé in absinthe (€62). The deserts are also a delight at Le Restaurant, like the meringue coming from Italy served with vanilla cream and caramel pecan.

Ambiance

Le Restaurant is a beautiful place that can be described in two parts. The restaurant in itself, with the comfortable armchairs, is perfect for an intimate and relaxing moment. There is also a patio at the back, which is the perfect spot for an isolated romantic moment on a warm sunny day. In July 2014, a new green wall was set up in the patio, giving an extra touch of class to this part of Le Restaurant. The clientele mostly consists of Americans and English visitors. At night, the western lanterns create an outmoded atmosphere, which is one of the key ingredients to the soothing and romantic ambiance here.

Decor

With magnificent velour armchairs, accordion style lampshades, mirrors and columns from the Empire age bathing in natural light, the decor of Le Restaurant is splendid. The patio outside is a peace and relaxation haven, with a fountain in the center, spreading freshness and sensual delight. All this is the creation of famous interior designer Jacques Garcia.

Conclusion

Le Restaurant is a place in paradise for all who seek a romantic spot. The couples (or soon to be) will drift off to a world of bliss by the found of the water flowing from the fountain. But the pleasure also comes in winter, when the warm and cozy interior becomes a place where lovers whisper sweet nothings or friends share their most intimate secrets.
