Why you will love it?

Le Crabe Marteau in Paris gives you a taste of Brittany, a harming region located in northwestern France, only two minutes away from the Arc de Triomphe. After opening Le Crabe Marteau in Brest, owner Pierre Cosmao decided to open another in Paris. The secret to success: ultra-fresh seafood coming directly from the coast of Brittany. These crabs are so fresh that you have to crack open the shells yourself.

Our Insiders' Article

The moment that Le Crabe Marteau in Brest opened in 2004, success flooded through its doors. After recognizing Le Crabe Marteau's popularity among Parisians and considering the fact that Paris is "the place where everything happens", Pierre Cosmao decided to open a second restaurant in Paris. Today, people flock to Le Crabe Marteau for the ultra-fresh seafood in such high numbers that opening more restaurants just might be on the horizon.

Don't go looking for a menu at Le Crabe Marteau! The selections, written on a chalkboard, change daily according to Poseidon's generosity. The seafood bypasses the middleman, coming directly from the coast of Brittany. The result? The wild-caught crabs and lobsters are still alive when they get to Paris. No farm-raised fish served here! Since its opening in 2004 Le Crabe Marteau has worked with the same supplier to bring the freshest, wild fish directly to Paris. What's more, it's one of the only restaurants in Paris to serve wild-caught abalone. The crab is served with a hammer and potatoes, alongside a sublime homemade mayonnaise.

Parisianist Tip: To accompany your food, try a wine from Saint Mont directly sourced from the southwestern Gers region of France.

At Le Crabe Marteau you will dine to the music of little wooden hammers tapping against crab shells. Don't worry if you aren't an expert crab-cracker. The staff will be happy to help and you'll pick it up in no time. The sounds of shell-whacking, laughter, and jazzy bossa-nova blend together to create a surprisingly pleasant din that draws in a crowd from Brittany, Paris, and all four corners of the globe.

As soon as you set foot in Le Crabe Marteau, the change of scenery is immediate. Say goodbye to Paris, and hello to the Finistère western coastal area. Old newspapers from the west of France are used as tablecloth, and buoys are hung on the walls between fisherman nets and Brittany flags. At the entrance a sign proclaims "Welcome to Brest", and it's no lie: at Le Crabe Marteau you really feel like you are in Brittany. All that's missing are the seagull cries piercing the salty air.

Whether you come to crack open those crabs, to enjoy the freshest seafood in Paris, or simply to assuage your nostalgia for Brittany, Le Crabe Marteau is an essential stop for every seafood lover. Freshness and authenticity are guaranteed, and the prices are quite reasonable considering the quality of the ingredients. On a date, with friends, or with family, you'll be sure to have a good time at this homey restaurant that keeps you coming back for more.
