Our Insiders' Article

When the 104, a vibrant cultural center, began the search for a restaurant to add to its lot, Claudio Episcopo seemed like the man for the job. Living in the neighborhood and already affiliated with nearby Tokyo Eat (restaurant at the Palais de Tokyo Modern Art Museum), it didn't take long before he was won over by the locals. In 2009 the Café Caché was born. A cafe-restaurant with a very Parisian feel, it understood its place in the 104 and harmoniously complemented its unusual surroundings.

A tell-tale sign that you've stumbled into Café Caché: fresh, simple, delicious food. Organic and local foods aren't the focus here, but freshness is essential. Although the menu changes daily, the spirit of sharing is a constant given that tapas is the heart of the menu. The ingredients are seasonal, the deserts are famous, and the prices are quite reasonable.

Parisianist Fun Fact: the frites maison (homemade fries) at Café Caché are renowned

At the Café Caché you're likely to run into celebrities, employees of the 104, families, electronic music fans, and 60-year-old yoga fanatics. The magic of this place lies in its ability to keep an eclectic mix of people happy. There are regulars, but for the most part the clientele varies with each event hosted at the 104. On the weekend, the Café Caché is a destination for families who come for the large tables and easy-to-share dishes. What's more, the musical ambiance is just as eclectic as the clientele.

While artist in resident at the 104, Wienrinck's famous metallic-tube bench project was put on hold. Good news for the Café Caché who was then able to entrust the restaurant's design to him. The final result is stunning. The walls are covered in a wood panels, the ceiling is metallic and luminous, and large mirrors attract the eye. But best of all is the patio with a detachable roof that makes for an especially enjoyable time on a beautiful summer day.

Why go to Café Caché? Quality food in an unusual location, reasonable prices – the list goes on and on! The neighborhood might not be the most pleasant in Paris (avoid going there at night with a date or with kids), if you're passing through the 104 don't hesitate to stop in for a quick bite or for a glass of wine. Ideal for families or among friends, it'll take just one visit to get hooked.
