Our Insiders' Article

Intro

In 2011, Julien Cohen, already the owner of several restaurants in Paris, wanted to open a cocktail bar. At this point he met Oscar Quagliarini, a cocktail grand master. The latter took care of concocting the drinks menu, proposing his famous creations, while Julien set up the Italian restaurant, as he is the one who knows the secret formula guaranteeing success.

Parisianist Fun Fact: the name of the place is related to the presence of a nearby boutique restaurant “Merci”, at the time run by Julien's parents.

Drinks

At Grazie it is enough simply to enjoy a meal and to drink one of the wines from the extensive wine menu. But to do that is to deprive oneself of Grazie's speciality: the cocktails. You can stick to the perfectly-mastered classics and quench your thirst with a Mojito or a Sex on the Beach. But the most curious among you should test out La Vie en Rose” or the “Basil Honey Martini. Beyond the excellent choices, it is the quality that makes the difference: a number of concoctions are made in-house and that's where it shows.

Food

Why change something that already works? Grazie's menu is nearly the same as another one of Julien Cohen’s successes: Pizza Chic. The pizzas (but not just pizzas) are prepared with high quality products imported in large part from Italy. The ingredients are chosen meticulously. The price is somewhat high, but the quality of the products and of know-how is fully recognized in the flavors.

Ambiance

It is not surprising to find a lot of hipsters here, as this neighborhood is one of their favorite hangouts.  But even if you have an issue with hipsters, don't write off Grazie so soon. You will miss the comfortable sofas, the ambiance of eclectic but decidedly old-school music, the carefully considered decoration, and most of all the magic of the place itself hidden under false ceilings and layers of peeling paint.

Conclusion

In small groups, Grazie is nice. Couples are sure to have a delightful evening. That said, it is recommended to avoid coming in large numbers. First off, the layout of the place is not well-suited to accommodating large groups and second, as you will see, the pizzas are cooked in a wood-fired oven, making it difficult to synchronize orders. The best is to come around 7:30pm and have a drink before dinner.
