Dans le Noir

Eat in complete darkness

Why you will love it?

At Dans le Noir ? (« In the Dark ? »), the explosion of all the senses make up for the temporarily lost sense of sight. Blind waiters help you get seated in a pitch black dining room and serve you dishes you simply cannot see. A most surprising and original experience, to say the least.

Our Insiders' Article

Trained by the company that owns the restaurant Dans le Noir?, the blind waiters develop their capacity to adapt to this unusual place. With already restaurants in London, Saint Petersburg and Barcelona, Edouard de Broglie and Didier Roche have create an experimental and ambitious project. These two entrepreneurs have also opened the “Dans le Noir” attraction in one of France’s most popular amusement park, le Futuroscope, in Poitiers. They have created something completely new and out of the ordinary.

Well let’s talk about the surprise… or maybe not! You will not know what you will be eating as the chef will never reveal the menu before his guests have tasted it in the dark. Only after the experience will you know what you actually had in your plate. Not to worry though, the food here is traditional French food with basic “international” ingredients. The 2 course meal (excluding drinks) costs 43€ and the 3 course meal costs 49€ and for the hungry customers, a gastronomic menu including appetizers is proposed and comes at a price of 79€. Upon arrival, the personnel will ask you what your allergies are, not your preferences taste wise. At Dans le Noir, you will eat with your mouth, not with your eyes, and believe it or not, it makes a huge difference.

Parisianist Fun Fact: the manager says she has welcomed people that were surprised to actually like beetroot: the sight of those red vegetables had evidently discouraged those people to taste them…

Fresh juices and cocktails are make daily, with or without alcohol, and your meal can be served with a matching wine.

Human contact, sociability and sensory are the 3 objectives that are perfectly hit at Dans le Noir?. An international and Parisian clientele is at first welcomed in a lit room (a sort of waiting room). Once the number of guests has reached the limit, the group is led by blind people inside the dark dining room. The restaurant is very animated and festive on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. If you really want to experience Dans le Noir? in a quieter environment and let your senses carry you away, come on a Sunday night.

The decor? It’s your taste buds… The restaurant has 57 seats, and tables of 6 are positioned in a way to facilitate the come and go of the waiters. If you are not with a group of 5 other people, you will be eating next to a complete stranger, which is a great way to socialize. The idea is to guess what is served by the chef by way of taste and texture.

Parisianist Fun Fact: Sometimes the guests are served delicious scallops, but a lot of people are slightly repulsed by their odd gooey texture although it’s generally an all-time favorite when you see what you eat!

The tables have turned and your senses take over your dinner experience. Dans le Noir? is recommended with friends, but it’s primarily a fun experience for the daring, as eating in complete darkness can destabilize certain people. When, just for a brief moment, you lose your sight, your other senses truly come to life and that makes it an unforgettable experience.
