Our Insiders' Article

Anyone living in Paris that likes traditional food but that does not want to spend a fortune for it has heard or has been to the Café de l’Industrie. More than a restaurant, it has become an institution. Opened in 1990 and replacing a rundown bar, the Café de l’Industrie has since then opened 2 more venues just across the street (and a 4th one to come), as more and more people keep coming in every day.

Parisianist Fun Fact: the owners also had a Lingerie shop across the road called Industrie Lingerie, but it closed recently and is now used as a storage room

Snails, duck confit, sausage and with mashed potatoes... All these traditional French dishes are available at Café de l’Industrie at an unbeatable price. You rarely won’t spend more than 25€ for a 3 course meal including a glass of wine! The meat comes from a local butcher and the vegetables from the market, so it can’t be any fresher. Some people might regret the fact that the products are not Bio, but the taste is just as nice and the prices would double if otherwise! Rest assured, everything is homemade…

Parisianist Tip: for desert, might as well go for the classic cheesecake, a best seller here. Some elements on the menu change every 3 months to follow seasonality.

Having lunch or dinner at Café de l’Industrie feels just like having a joyful get together with a few friends at home, without having to worry about cooking or doing the dishes! The staff, mainly young students or artists, are usually international, giving the area a laid back and welcoming feel, adding up to the popularity of the restaurant. Whether it’s in the original restaurant or the 2 newer venues, the lively ambiance is exactly the same.

Parisianist Fun Fact: The dishes usually come very fast after your order, but surprisingly, the bill might take a while!

When owner Adrien and his father before him decided to turn the newly acquired area into a restaurant for a melting pot of people enjoying French cuisine, they didn’t have a design in mind for decoration. So, with a melting pot of people comes a melting pot of decoration. An assortment of mismatched objects found on flea markets or brought back from travels abroad hangs profusely on the walls: paintings, sculptures, knickknacks all add up to the friendly and cozy ambiance of Café de l’Industrie.

Even though the Café de l’Industrie is a budget restaurant, the quality of the food and drinks, the ambiance and the curious decor attract all kinds of people, from international stars to Parisian strangers… Age is also not an issue, for everyone here is welcome and everyone will feel comfortable!

Parisianist Fun Fact: there have been so many stories that happened at the Café de l’Industrie, but this is all very hush hush according to Adrien…

Honestly, it’s difficult to find a place where you can have so much fun, eat good French food and drink carefully selected wines yet pay so little! Although reservations are recommended as Café de l’Industrie is always full (unless you are planning to eat at midnight), a call a day in advance is enough. And if it’s not for dinner, just having a drink on the outside terrace in summer or in the 3rd venue (it’s only a bar) is well worth it!
