Who is it for?

Paris for you

Why you will love it?

More than just a restaurant, Au Pied de Cochon (“The Pig's Foot”) is an institution that’s been around since 1947. Its popularity and its quality, rough-around-the-edges dishes even attracted former French President François Mitterrand who celebrated his electoral victory here in 1981. Add to that the fact that the place is open 24/7 and you've got the symbol of Paris’ nocturnal gastronomic culture.

Our Insiders' Article

Established in the 40s by Clément Blanc, the famous Au Pied de Cochon today is part of a worldwide conglomerate of restaurants that were founded thanks to the entrepreneurial impulses of the founder's two sons. There are now several other Au Pied de Cochon restaurants around the world such as Beijing, Mexico or Santa Fe in the USA. The restaurant's expansion onto several other continents does not mean, however, that quality has gone out the window.

Au Pied de Cochon's specialty isn’t too hard to guess: it’s pigs feet. But it's the other dishes that have given this place its epic reputation. Case in point: the classic onion soup which has been a favorite since the restaurant opened. Another winning dish? La Tentation de Saint Antoine (pig’s tail, ear, and snout fried in breadcrumbs). If you don't like pork, don't worry, seafood is also on the menu and the sole is particularly tasty.

It's no surprise that the ambiance at Au Pied de Cochon is totally different at lunchtime than it is at 2 in the morning. Tourist and family hotspot during the day, noisy and laid-back at night, Au Pied de Cochon's got it all. The only drawback? The quality of the service is relatively unpredictable, especially when it's very busy. But this drawback doesn’t seem to pose much of a problem, especially for the inebriated night-owls who have a high tolerance for hanging around.

If you are a swinophobiac (fear of pigs), flee before it's too late. The sight of the bronze statue of Oscar, the mascot pig, will be enough to set you off and running. And the feet of the tables and the doorknobs, all decorated with pigs, will quickly make you lose your appetite. Perhaps saddest of all is the fact that, blinded by fear, you’ll fail to appreciate the sweet 50s-style decoration and the long red booths lining the walls that are so typical of Parisian brasseries.

Au Pied de Cochon is a true Parisian institution that has the quirks to prove it. One of these quirks is the unpredictable service that sometimes leaves the client feeling a tad neglected. Nevertheless, anyone traveling to Paris simply has to know what it’s like to eat pig’s feet at 3 in the morning after a night out. It’s all good at Au Pied de Cochon.
