Our Insiders' Article

Located under the Palais de Tokyo, one of Paris’ most famous center for contemporary creation / modern art museum a few hundred meters away from the Trocadéro and Eiffel Tower, the Yoyo is a new entertainment complex that opened in September 2013. The hall was once a small cinema belonging to the Cinémathèque Française (Film Library of France), which the Palais de Tokyo decided to modify to fit their modern creation image. During the weekend (Friday and Saturday), the YOYO becomes a trendy see and be seen night club.

The YOYO has welcomed many famous international performers since its opening in September 2013 and does not limit itself to one style of music. The live performances usually take place during the weekend and bands such as Texas, Foster the People, Micky Green, RobinThicke and Telepopomusik have hit the stage here. After the live performances, the hall turns into a nightclub, with famous international DJ’s playing their signature beats to get the people dancing. There is no resident DJ at the YOYO.

During the week, the YOYO welcomes a lot of events such as fashion shows, cocktails, prize handouts, product launchings etc. and has therefore seen a lot of fashion, movie or TV celebrities: Giorgio Armani, Inès de la Fressange, Jared Leto… The clientele is therefore very diversified depending on the events that take place. During the weekends, it’s mostly a young French crowd between 20 and 30 years old, although expatriates tend to come as well. The staff is also mostly French, but can adapt to international guests.

The entrance of the YOYO sets the tone. The guests are plunged in a Street Art universe as they walk down the stairs and enter the nightclub, with a décor designed by the Lek & Sowat Group. The hall in itself is very raw and modern: concrete, neon lights, angular shapes. The idea is to keep the spirit of the Berlin and New York nightclubs, a partying and trendy spirit

During the weekend, you can check the YOYO’s internet site in order to know what type of events they are planning. Tickets can be purchased online or at the YOYO on the day (if not fully booked). There are quite a lot of monthly events, such as Room Service, Rock’n’Roll Circus, Creative Live Sessions which are very popular. Events during the week are usually private. For the nightclub, it is possible to book a table in advance, but in France, booking a table means buying a bottle. And for those who get hungry during the night, snacks like hotdogs are available.
