Why you will love it?

The Thistle is an authentic Scottish pub. There's no mistaking it for otherwise: it has beers and whiskeys, photos of people in kilts on the walls, and an inviting atmosphere where conversation flows easily and sporting events play on the TVs. It's only waiting for you to arrive to continue the party. Enjoy! Parisianist.

Our Insiders' Article

The Thistle is perhaps not the most unique pub, nor the most beautiful, nor the biggest or most popular in Paris. The Thistle is quite simply a laid-back pub that's great for a beer or a whisky accompanied by friendly conversation. In this classic Scottish-pub-environment, you can talk with the bartenders and regulars about everything under the sun or nothing at all. The most fitting word to describe this place where people lean across the bar to chat, laugh, and debate over a pint of beer? Homey.

Beer and whisky are any pub's staples, and The Thistle is no exception. Unlike most other establishments of this kind that offer an enormous selection of beer and whisky, The Thistle preferred to have a wider selection of beverages. The selection of draft beers includes The Belhaven Black (similar to Guinness), the Belhaven Best and the Caledonian (6-7 Euros for a pint). There are a few very nice Scottish whiskies and alcohols on the menu, but The Thistle also offers cocktails (€8), shots (€4), and even coffee. To go with your drink, you can order chips (crisps), but it's equally possible to bring in food from outside and eat it there.

During the week The Thistle does not get very busy unless there is a major sports game being screened on the pub’s three TVs. This makes it a good place to relax and enjoy a nice cool drink before or after dinner. The atmosphere is more festive on the weekends, reaching its peak Friday and Saturday nights. With rock music playing, the atmosphere is most fun inside among the staff and regulars who love a rowdy time. For those who prefer the fresh air, there are tables outside as well. On Sundays, the Pub Quiz is a great way to wind down at the end of the weekend. Several times per month, music bands perform live at the Thistle, adding another feature to the already fantastic ambiance.

“I love to drink, but I'm not an alcoholic. Alcoholics go to meetings.” Humorous signs like this one hang on the walls, and give the pub a light-hearted atmosphere. Other decorations, like the logos for the beers and alcohols that the pub serves and the ever-present photos of lads in kilts evoke a more traditional Scottish style that will send you straight to the Highlands! It's impossible not to pick up on Scottish atmosphere at The Thistle.

Despite its prime location on the Rue Saint Denis, it doesn't attract much attention. During the week, it's a nice spot for a peaceful drink after a meal, and only on Friday and Saturday nights does it really hop. Once the weekend comes around, The Thistle is the kind of place you might want to stay all night. The great atmosphere isn't a guarantee every night since it depends on the crowd that shows up. All the same, it's worth checking out the ambiance when you're in the neighborhood. All it takes is a tiny spark to light the festive mood on fire. And who knows? Maybe it's you who'll bring that spark.
