Why you will love it?

In the heart of So-Pi (South Pigalle) a new cocktail bar, Lulu White, has set up shop. The latest project of the owners of The Little Red Door, Lulu White takes inspiration from Paris and New Orleans at the turn of the 20th-century, offering delicious absinthe-based cocktails in an elegant and inviting setting. Enjoy! Parisianist.

Our Insiders' Article

If there is one area of the city that knows how to reinvent itself, it’s the neighborhood of South Pigalle (called So-Pi by those in the know). For several years now, hip cocktail bars have moved in to former hostess bars, a few of which were in degraded shape to begin with. Open since November 2014, Lulu White distinguishes itself from the other cocktail bars on Rue Frochot with its elegance, refinement, and original cocktail menu focused on absinthe.

Parisianist Fun Fact : Lulu White was an African-American “madam” who ran a prestigious brothel in Storyville, the historic center of New Orleans in the United States at the beginning of the 20th century.

At Lulu White, it’s all about the absinthe. Since the ban was lifted on this alcohol that, as legend has it, will make you go crazy, the Green Fairy has won over a number of loyal fans. Every concoction (or nearly every) at Lulu White is made with an absinthe base. For the adventurous and for the diehard absinthe-lovers, it’s possible to order an assortment of three different absinthes. But if you decide to forgo the bar’s original cocktail recipes, the ultra-competent staff can whip up your favorite cocktail upon request, no problem. To keep things fresh, the menu changes every six months. A few snacks (chips) are offered but, unlike the Little Red Door, Lulu White does not serve any dishes to share.

Parisianist Fun Fact : Always original, Lulu White’s slushy machine puts a new spin on flavor and texture that is sure to excite those who love one-of-a-kind cocktails.

The cheerful, competent, and most of all friendly team of bartenders make this a pleasant place to spend some time. For a laid-back night, come at the beginning of the evening. The soft jazzy music allows for easy conversation without the need to yell over background noise and creates a coziness you thought you could only get at home. The ambiance takes a drastic turn on the weekend: the fact that the bar is quite small means that it fills up quickly and is bustling in no time. On these livelier nights, a DJ spins some tunes and gets the party started.

Parisianist Tip: To assure a seat at the bar or a table in one of the two nooks in Lulu White, get there early, especially on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights.

In mahogany and shades of dark green, the bar is the reminiscent of the metro stations designed by Hector Guimard. No doubt about it, you’ve landed in the year 1900 during the Belle Époque in Paris, a time when both Paris and New Orleans were centers of artistic, intellectual, and culinary refinement. Its here, in Lulu Whites tasteful and elegant decor, where old Paris meets its contemporary counterpart.

Parisianist Warning: Beware of missing the entrance! Lulu White’s front window is tinted and very discrete.

Moving into So-Pi, Lulu White had no intention of competing with the other cocktail bars on the street, each with its own distinct concept, cocktails, and decoration. Instead this bar hopes to offer an alternative to the other choices. Among friends or on a date, Lulu White makes for a quiet, relaxing evening in an elegant environment. But on the weekends, night owls and cocktail-lovers won’t be disappointed by the hopping bar. Lulu White is a real must-do in So-Pi!
