Getting an excellent meal at the Beef Club or the Fish Club right next door, both part of the Experimental Group (which started out with the Experimental Cocktail Club), is already a great culinary experience, but what better way to top it off with a nice and original cocktail? All you need to do is take the stairs and go down… The Ballroom opened in March 2012, replacing a run down Chinese karaoke bar, and has now become one of the top cocktail bars in town.


The Ballroom lists a dozen cocktails on the menu, most of them being signature cocktails. Since some seasons go by so fast (some fruits are only available for a month or 2), it was hard to keep track of the seasonality by changing the menu 4 times per year. In order to use all the fresh ingredients available and please the most demanding cocktail amateur, at least 2 cocktails are changed from the menu every month. The best seller is the Concombre Fumant, which is tequila based. You can also try the Bee Ki, which is a bit sweeter. All cocktails come at 13-14€.


The originality of the Ballroom lies in their shareable cocktails. Indeed, should you want to share a cocktail with 4 or 5 friends, ask for a “Flacon” (a flask). 4 different cocktails are available in flask size. The Ballroom also offers a variety of champagne, wine, spirits and sodas. And if you are up for the challenge, ask for a small shot of Pusser’s Rum, the british navyrum.


There are 2 restaurants upstairs, one for fish and the other for meat, but for those who just want to have some finger food as you are enjoying your cocktail, the Ballroom has a finger food menu based on French products. Be it dried meats, paté, cheese, tarama or humus, all these snacks can be shared among friends. 


The staircase leading to the Ballroom might seem a little dodgy, but from Wednesday to Saturday, DJ’s keep the energy pumping inside. Since the bar is in the basement, there’s no risk waking up the neighbors, so once the people start getting into a party mood, the DJ can turn the volume up so that guests dance until the break of dawn. On weekends, the queue starts at 10pm so book a table in advance by email ([email protected]). On week days, the Ballroom is still quite packed. There is no smoking room unfortunately, so smokers have to climb the stairs back up to smoke in the street.


The crowd is very diverse at the Ballroom and you will find just about any age and style here. Although it’s not an after work get together, many men and women in business attire come and have a drink before (or after) dinner. Expatriates and Parisians of all ages come to enjoy their drink in a dimmed 1950’s stylish decor. “It’s all about the products that we like” says Xavier, a very friendly and knowledgeable barman. So after having spent some time shopping in the underground labyrinth that best describes Les Halles, don’t forget to come to the ballroom to indulge yourself with a French Tom or a Kitory whiskey.
