Top 10 Best Places to Watch the Bastille Day Fireworks

June 25, 2015

By Florian

Every year, the Bastille Day fireworks are released from the Eiffel Tower and Trocadero fountains. The show starts at 11 pm and lasts for around 35 minutes. In 2015, the show will be preceded by a concert in the Champ-de-Mars park, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. 250 singers and musicians, amongst them international stars such as Lang Lang, Rey Chen and Joyce Di Donato, will be performing. Here are the Top10 best places to enjoy the Bastille Day fireworks in 2015.

Parisianist fun fact: The Paris city council spent 700 000 € on the firework show. Quite far from Dubai’s budget of €5,3 million and London’s €2,3 million!

Champ de Mars

The Champ-de-Mars is the long park at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. You will have the closest view of the fireworks and symphony concert. Nonetheless, remember that you will not be alone! Arrive early in the afternoon to secure a place on the grass in front of the Eiffel Tower. Prepare yourself to also be patient at the end of the show when the thousands of people leave the place all at once.

  • Metro: Line 8 – Ecole Militaire

Ciel de Paris

If you are up for a meal during the Bastille Day fireworks, visit Ciel de Paris, the restaurant on the 56thfloor of the Montparnasse TowerFor the best view, we recommend that you reserve a table by the window, as soon as possible no less! There is also the non-meal option of watching the show outdoors. For this, just go up 3 more floors to the panoramic terrace of the Montparnasse Tower. Get there early, the terrace fills up fast!

  • Address : 33 avenue du Maine, 75015 Paris
  • Metro : Line 4/6/12 – Montparnasse Bienvenüe

43 Up the Roof

Another fantastic terrace offering a magnificent view of the Eiffel Tower and the roofs of Paris is the 43 Up the Roof, on top of the Holiday Inn in Saint Michel. The Eiffel Tower and the fireworks are in a distance, but this laid-back bar is a great place to watch the Bastille Day fireworks (without the concert music) whilst enjoying an excellent homemade cocktail.

  • Address: 4 Rue Danton, 75006 Paris
  • Metro : Line 4 – Saint Michel

The latest of the Parisian palaces, the Peninsula is situated not far from the Eiffel Tower and offers, from the hotel’s rooftop bar and restaurant l’Oiseau Blanc, a magnificent view of the iconic iron monument. For a meal or just a drink, it will be necessary to book well in advance as you won’t be alone. If there are no space left, you can always book a room with a view of the Eiffel Tower.

  • Address: 19 Avenue Kléber, 75016 Paris
  • Metro: Line 6 - Kléber

Bateaux Parisiens

All the cruise companies in Paris offer their clients a unique and fun way to watch the Bastille Day fireworks. But with its passenger quay at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, comfortable boats and a great gastronomic dinner, we highly recommend Les Bateaux Parisiens as they will deliver an unforgettable experience. Once again, remember to make a reservation well in advance!

  • Address: Port de la Bourdonnais, 75007 Paris
  • Metro: Line 9 - Iéna

Other prime locations, are the Parvis du Trocadero and the Pont d’Iéna (Iéna bridge). The Parvis du Trocadéro offers the best view on the Eiffel Tower, and the Pont d’Iéna is the bridge linking the tower and the Trocadéro. Here you will be at the heart of the action, including the symphonic concert. Needless to say that both these areas are very crowded and therefore not recommended for agoraphobics. If going with children, be careful with the crowds and fatigue (you’ll have to stand up for some hours)!

Metro: Line 6/9 - Trocadéro

Pont d’léna, is not the only Parisian bridge that offers a good view on the Bastille Day Fireworks. Other bridges include the Alexandre III, Concorde, Bir Hakeim, Alma, Grenelle and the Pont des Arts bridges. From there you will be able to see the fireworks released high up into the sky, however the surrounding buildings will block the view of the lower fireworks. Get to the bridge at around 10 pm to be sure to get a good spot.

Les Ombres

Les Ombres is a restaurant on the roof of the Musée du Quai Branly, the primitive art museum. It offers one of the closest views of the Eiffel Tower from a restaurant terrace. Book well in advance!

Here are other terraces where you can enjoy the fireworks: Monsieur Bleu, le Raphaël and the Maison Blanche. Contrary to what some online recommendations say, the Jules Vernes (the 3 Michelin star rated restaurant inside the Eiffel Tower) is closed on the night of July 14.

  • Address: 27 Quai Branly, 75007 Paris
  • Metro : Line 9 – Alma Marceau

La Vue

Perched at the top of the Concorde Lafayette tower of Porte Maillot, La Vue (“the view”) is the bar of the Hyatt hotel. As the name suggests, it offers a magnificent panoramic view of Paris. The cocktails are excellent, but slightly overpriced. Make a reservation well in advance to be able to enjoy the view from La Vue over the Bastille Day fireworks.

  • Address: 3 Place du Général Kœnig, 75017 Paris
  • Metro : Line 1 – Porte Maillot

Do not be tricked by those who tell you that you can see the fireworks from the Sacré Cœur. Even though the view is wonderful, it does not include the Eiffel Tower! Nonetheless, there is a strategic position from which you can see the Eiffel Tower if you are absolutely set on staying in the beautiful neighborhood: in front of le square Nadar between rue Saint Eleuthère and rue Azais.

  • Metro: Line 12 - Abbesses
