New Year’s Eve is always a special time of year that must be celebrated in the best way possible.  As surprising as this might seem, and unlike what many people might believe, Paris doesn’t have majestic fireworks planned around the Eiffel Tower on that special night. But that doesn’t mean that the celebration won’t be in full swing in the capital city! Without further ado, here are 8 things to do in Paris for New Year’s Eve 2016, depending on your personality.

The Parisians prefer, in general, to spend new year’s eve with family or friends, around a copious meal. On the menu: foie gras, oysters, smoked salmon, turkey with chestnuts…

Here are some uncommon places where you can take advantage of a delicious New Year’s Eve meal

On a cruise on a sumptuous boat from Bateaux Parisiens (from 390€  per person)

Le 58 Tour Eiffel, on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower (350 to 480€ per person)

Le Ciel de Paris, on top of the MontparnasseTower, with a view of all of Paris (405€ per person)

Le Bustronome, the luxury mobile restaurant that stops in front of the most iconic monuments of Paris. (from 105€ per person)

The ambiance will be hot in the cabarets of Paris. Spend New Year’s Eve 2016 in one of the iconic cabarets of Paris will guarantee you an unforgettable evening!

At the Crazy Horse, the new year celebrations will be named “Désirs”.  Prices start at 250€ for the show, ½ a bottle of champagne and Petrossian Caviar.

At the Lido, the BlueBell Girls will honor the beauty of Paris in the revue “Paris Merveilles”. The New Year’s Eve dinner + show starts at 680€ per person

At the Moulin Rouge, there will be traditional French Cancan with feathers, sparkles, and sequins. The New Year’s Eve dinner + performance is at 680€ per person as well.

What would Paris be without its theaters? The grand majority of them will be open December 31st, 2015. And thanks to Theater in Paris, some of these very popular plays open their doors to English speakers. Come enjoy Irma La Douce, Mistinguett or The Lie with Enligh surtitles.

Paris isn’t lacking any romantic places, but for New Year’s Eve 2016, nothing is better than a complete experience in Montmartre. Choose a small, friendly restaurant in this village-like neighborhood (but avoid the Place du Tertre, which is a little too touristy), followed by a walk in its charming streets. Finally, open a nice cold bottle of champagne in the comfort of your hotel room: le Montmartre Mon Amour, lHôtel Particulier or the luxurious apartments of the Montmartre Residence.

There aren’t any fireworks in Paris for the new year, but there could be some exceptional events. For New Year’s Eve 2015, the Parisians enjoyed both a light and sound show on the Arc de Triomphe. A few years before, the Eiffel Tower was the theater of a light show. Whatever it is exactly, there are always people under the Eiffel Tower and on the Champs-Elysées. So if you don’t want to be alone, these two places are perfect for you!

You want to take advantage of Paris’s beauty ‘by night’ without having to elbow your way through a dense crowd? There are a lot of places, of course, but nothing is better than a quiet walk on the Quais de Seine. And to deal with the cold of December 31st, bring along a bottle of champagne that you will enjoy drinking in front of Notre Dame!

The kids deserve to celebrate New Year’s Eve 2016 in Paris as well, even if they don’t have permission to stay up till midnight! Here are a few places to celebrate the end of the year with the whole family.

The Festival du Merveilleux will take place this year from December 26th, 2015 to January 3rd, 2016. A unique occasion to discover the incredible Musée des Arts Forains and participate in a funfair from the 1900s.

Disneyland Paris is a must-see for families and at this time of the year, the excitement and magic is even better!

For the magic amateurs, head over to Double Fond. At this magic café/theater, even the adults will become children again! (1 Place du Marché Sainte-Catherine, 75004, Métro Line 1 – Saint Paul)
