Our Insiders' Article

Respect of the natural habitat

The Paris Zoo (Park Zoologique de Paris or commonly called Zoo de Vincennes) is located in the Bois de Vincennes. It reopened on April 12th 2014 after a 6 year renovation period.
This modern zoo offers comfort for both the visitors and the animals. The latter live in areas that best resemble their natural habitat. There are 180 different species to be discovered in the Paris Zoo, and state of the art educational content (videos, explanatory boards) for adults and kids.

Making the Most of It

It will be easier to spot the animals on hot sunny days, so the optimal time to go to the Paris Zoo is during the summer.

The zoo is located 5 minutes by foot from Porte Dorée metro station (line 8). The path is clearly marked.

The Paris Zoo attracts a lot of visitors on weekends and on holidays, so it is better to arrive 30 minutes prior to the zoo’s opening hour when coming on these dates.

The entry ticket is valid for one entry only. If you want to picnic, buy your food before entering the zoo.

A zoo divided in 5 Biozones

The Zoo is divided into 5 areas, also called Bio Zones.

Madagascar: the tropical rainforest, located for most part in a huge greenhouse, with 30 species
Guyana: the Equatorial forest with 67 species.
Europe: the forest, swamp and cold mountains with 28 species (vivarium)
Sahel-Soudan:  the savanna and African wildlife with 44 species
Patagonia: the pampa, rocky shores and Andean forest with 7 species.

Maps of the zoo are available at the entrance.

Manatees, giraffes, seals and more

Every animal is special and can be fascinating, but here are some of the animals you should not miss at the Paris Zoo: the Lemurs on lemur island, the manatees, crocodiles and parrots in the greenhouse, the capybara (the largest rodent in the world), the monkeys and snakes next to the iconic high rock, the giraffe shelter and all the African animals (lions, rhinos, antilopes) and last but not least, the penguins and seals in their see through pool.

Make sure you take a quick look at the animal infirmary located next to the Kudu antelope area or enter the large aviary to see the flamingos and other African birds.

Perfect with kids on a sunny day

Some animals live in densely “decorated” areas (resembling their natural habitat). These animals, such as jaguars, wolves or snakes, will hide most of the time, so they might be difficult to stop.

There are 2 restaurants inside the zoo, as well as 4 snack bars. At the very eastern tip of the zoo is a green area suitable for picnics. The Paris Zoo is a perfect place to visit with children. Plan quite a large budget though as it all adds up quickly: entrance fee + meal / snacks + souvenirs for children…
