Why you will love it?

The Musee Rodin is dedicated to one of the most famous French sculptors of all time, Auguste Rodin. He was a pioneer in his field, going against the academic trends of his time. He had an incredible talent for transforming his sculptures into virtually living flesh and blood. In addition to the beautiful museum, the Musee Rodin's garden is a wonderful place where a lot of his most famous sculptures are exposed.
A great to visit after or before heading to the Invalides.

Our Insiders' Article

Musee Rodin: marble in the flesh

The Musee Rodin is dedicated to the French sculptor Auguste Rodin (1840-1917). Rodin worked tirelessly on his art, becoming a sculptor of extraordinarily lifelike bodies. He endeavored to reinvent his art with each one of his sculptures teeming with life.

Making the Most of the Rodin Museum

The museum is split into three main parts: the chapel, the museum and the gardens.
The entrance is situated in the chapel, along with the museum shop and the temporary exhibitions.
The Hôtel Biron, Rodin’s former residence, houses the museum and hundreds of the artist’s works.
The garden stretches over three hectares and includes a rose garden, an ornamental garden and a hidden relaxation area. Here you can see many of Rodin’s sculptures.

Highlights: Rodin's most famous works

All of Rodin’s most famous works are exhibited at the Musee Rodin:
The Gates of Hell, based on Dante’s Divine Comedy, located in the gardens.
The Thinker, which can also be seen in the garden, is thought to depict the poet Dante.
Also in the garden, located not far from The Thinker, stands the statue of famous French novelist Honoré de Balzac, poorly received by the critics at the time.
The Walking Man, located inside the Hôtel Biron, was created in 1907 and depicts Saint John the Baptist after his beheading.
The Age of Bronze, Rodin’s first sculpture in bronze, is also situated indoors, as well as The Kiss

Other Artists: Camille Claudel, Rodin's favorite mistress

It is well known that Rodin’s mistress, muse, assistant and student Camille Claudel sculpted the hands and feet for Rodin’s The Burghers of Calais (which can be seen in the gardens).
Rodin saw a huge amount of talent in her work. Claudel’s sculpture The Age of Maturity is admired throughout the world.
Rodin fell deeply in love with the young woman and together they had a complicated, tumultuous relationship.

Conclusion: absolutely not to be missed

Whether you just fancy taking in a bit of culture or you’re a true art lover, the Musee Rodin is a fantastic experience.
Visitors stand awe-struck before the talent of this man that revolutionized sculpture and inspired the greats.
