Why you will love it?

Located next to the Place des Victoires, one of Paris’ oldest squares, the Musee en Herbe is a museum dedicated to children (but adults are also welcome). Its purpose is to introduce modern art to the young. To do this, contemporary artists are highlighted and explained in ways that children will understand and admire. There are also creative workshops and a library to entertain even the youngest children. Not to be missed if you are travelling with kids!

Our Insiders' Article

Musee en Herbe

Since 1975, the Musee en Herbe offers exhibitions adapted for all ages, but with an accent on education for children. At this very unusual museum, everything is made so that kids learn and enjoy modern art through interesting activities and an experienced staff… The Musee en Herbe is therefore an ideal place to have your kids (and yourself) entertained and still be looking at artworks of famous contemporary artists.

In order to fully appreciate the value of this museum, you and your children should participate in the various animations proposed by the Musee en Herbe. For this, a reservation needs to be done via their website. Another way to fully enjoy it is to go on a treasure hunt using a free booklet. Just ask for one at the welcome desk.

Parisianist Tip: Reservations one week in advance are required for the guided visit as they are very popular.

At the Musee en Herbe, the children are in direct contact with big names in modern art, such as Spoerri, Christo or Arman. Each child receives a little notebook to draw on, where he/she will try to recognize the artworks and which will help him/her navigate through the exhibition in a fun way.

In the bookstore called the Petit Baz’art (the small Baz’art), you will find art books for children as well as books that have been created by young talents, who are generally invited for autographs and promotion. Free readings of children’s books are proposed every Wednesday at 3pm (in French).

The Musee en Herbe's workshop is open to children over 2 years old and will enable them express their creative talent. Sculpture, painting, collage, modelling… The workshop (related to the museum’s exhibition) only costs 10€ per person, whereas the visit + the workshop costs 16€ per person. The starting time of these workshops depends on your child’s age. They generally last 1 hour. They take place on Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays, and the number of participants is limited to 10.

Parisianist Tip: Reservations one week in advance are required for the workshops by email:

At Musee en Herbe, kids will be able to satisfy their curiosity when in front of modern artworks. Visitors are mostly Parisians and generally come during the weekend or the holidays. Again, all activities are in French and only in that language. The quality of the exhibitions and the educational side of the visits are the 2 main reasons why this museum is a great success. We therefore highly recommend this museum for toddlers and kids who speak a bit of French.
