Our Insiders' Article

The Fair

In order to find your way through this vast agricultural fair located at the Parc d’Exposition de la Porte de Versailles, it is recommended to check out the official Salon de l'Agriculture 2016 map.

To avoid long lines, it is better to head out to the Salon de l’Agriculture on weekdays at 11am, or just book your ticket in advance online. And to make the most of your tasting experience, it is wise to  visit the food stands at noon. It's the perfect time for an early lunch.

You will then have plenty of time to see the animals and the giant machinery in the afternoon.

End your visit by getting a drink (or two) in the festive stands: Brazil, French Caribbean islands…. You'll be at the right place when you hear the live music! Trust us, you won’t find better rum than here!

4 Sectors

The Salon de l'Agriculture 2016 is divided into 4 sectors: Livestock Breeding Sectors, Culinary products, Crops and Plants and Agricultural Services and Professions. During 1 week, 1,050 professionals will be exposing their animals, products, machines or their know-how in front of 700,000 annual visitors.

The most popular attractions include the animals (over 4,000 animals including cattle, sheep, pigs, rabbits, chickens and even dogs and horses) and the culinary products.

During the World Expos held in the 19th century in Paris, there was always a special area dedicated to agriculture, an important part of the French economy. In 1870, a new agricultural competition was held: the Concours Général Agricole. Each year, the best agricultural products of each domain (breeding, culinary specialties such as wine, cheese, rum etc…) were, and still are, elected. In 1925, the Concours Général Agricole election moved to the Parc d’Exposition de la Porte de Versailles. It is only in 1964 that the real Salon de l’Agriculture as we know it today was born. A new name, but the game has been going on for more than 145 years.

Spending half a day at the Salon de l’Agriculture is truly something we recommend doing. Not only is it a great chance to admire huge agricultural machines and all the different farm animal races (the size of some of the bulls is really impressive!), but it is also a great way to taste many delicious products of each region of France and other countries. Cheeses, cured meats or other great tasting dishes, along with a nice wine are there for your pleasure, all in a very lively and festive ambiance. It might not be a very touristic thing to do while in Paris, but it truly is a great local experience!
