History

The idea of having live music performed on the summer solstice was brought forth by American musician Joel Cohen when working for a French radio station. But it was in 1981 that the French Minister of Culture decided to push the idea further. 2 years later, the first real Fete de la Musique was officially launched. Since then, 110 countries worldwide have decided to celebrate summer’s arrival with music. It would be a pity to miss where Music Day originated!
