Why you will love it?

How about enjoying a nice sunny day in Paris by doing something else than just use the soles of your shoes in the streets of the capital? Here’s an idea: Marin d’Eau Douce. Located on the Bassin de la Villette, rent small and easy to steer electric boats and spend a wonderful and relaxing time on the northern canal of Paris. Both fun and original, you’ll be a captain Haddock in no time and will truly appreciate staying away from Paris’ Billions of Blue Blistering Barnacles.

Our Insiders' Article

What?

What a pleasure to be able to enjoy a sunny day in Paris while on a boat. But no one ever offered the possibility to be your own captain and steer your own boat: options were either a classic tourist-packed cruise boat or a skipper-included boat rental). And then came Marin d’Eau Douce… Since May 2014, they rent out small electric boats that everyone can steer on the northern Canal de l’Ourcq. A new activity in Paris, but a very successful one as between March 1st and November 15th, several tens of thousands of people have become skippers for a day or less.

Parisianist Fun Fact: some people rent a Marin d’Eau Douce boat just to head out to one of the restaurants located on the banks of the Canal de l’Ourcq (like lunch at Brunello’s, 22/24 Quai de l’Aisne, 93500 Pantin). It beats taking the metro or taxi!

How?

Boat Rental Prices :

Ace (max. 5 people) : €40 - 1h / €70 - 2h / €90 - 3h / €100 – half day

Scoot (max. 7 people): €50 - 1h / €90 - 2h / €120 - 3h / €140 – half day / €200 – full day

Must (max. 11 people): €70 - 1h / €130 - 2h / €180 - 3h / €220 – half day / €300 – full day

Picnic basket: €7 per person

Highlights along the way: The Crimée Raising Bridge, the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie, the Great Mills of Pantin, the former Customs House and the Bergère Park. Special mooring docks for Marin d’Eau Douce boats are located at each point of interest.

Reservation: All you need to do is go to the Marin d’Eau Douce Pier on the Bassin de la Villette (37 Quai de la Seine) to rent a boat. It is also possible to reserve for special occasions (birthday, stag or hen’s party etc.) either by calling +33 (0)1 42 09 45 10 or online by clicking here.

Parisianist Tip: A 1h rental is not recommended because you will not be able to go further than the Crimée Raising Bridge, the oldest one of its kind in Paris. The latter opens twice every hour, at a quarter past and a quarter to.
